Grumbling Fur - Alice (Southern- 2012)
Grumbling Fur is an anti pop, pop drone band, that’s all you need to know and yes, there’s times in anco’s back catalogue where you could almost, but not quite call them the same thing. This formula turns out to be a good one (again). “Solar Nights and Rainwater” is a good entry point to what they do well, the somewhat paradoxical catchy drone. The loops never become stale or overstay their welcome and in the meantime lodge themselves firmly in your head, I spent most of yesterday whistling “Solar Nights” much to my friends distain. It is unclear how drastically they alter these loops with each pass it’s also not really important - this is anti cerebral stuff. It’s sort of like Mind vs Mirrors for the melodic pop inclined. Daniel O’Sullivan a who is one half of Grumbling Fur has played with Mothlite, Guapo, Aethenor, Ulver and SunnO))) to name a few which should give you a small idea of what to expect between now and pushing play.
I wish I had enough money for the LP bundle….. oh wait I do.
